Many famous individuals have talents that many may not be aware of. There are several celebrity children's book authors who may totally surprise their fans. Knowing how to switch gears and take on a very different task is a notable skill. The volumes of these stories sold can be higher than normal sales because of the big names behind them but many avid readers do not realize they even exist.

Famous actress and a daughter to a famous actor, Jamie Lee Curtis has authored many books for the younger set. They include "Other Moods That Make My Day" and "Tell Me Again About the Day I Was Born." She uses Laura Cornell, a talented illustrator for these works who produces fantastic pictures to go with the story lines.

Legendary country female vocalist Dolly Parton took one of her many hits and turned it into a children's story. "Coat of Many Colors" is the literary rendition of how a little girl in Tennessee was so poor that she didn't have a coat to wear to protect her from the cold. Her mother made her one from bits of fabric and rags but the children at school made fun of her new attire. She told them all how rich she felt wearing the coat her mother had made with such care and love.

World-renowned adult author, James Patterson, broke his usual writing routine when he began writing for young children. His "Middle School" series is all about what it is like for this age group in school. His works have been placed on the New York Time's bestseller list many times and he has also won book awards in 2011 and again in 2012 for his original and ground-breaking books.

Tim McGraw, country and western singer, wrote two books, "My Little Girl" and "Love Your Heart, " for his daughter. The first is about spending the day with Dad and the second about being kind.

Movie star and model, Brooke Shields, is another surprising author. She wrote a story of a young girl who became a big sister to her new sibling. The book tells of how helpful she was in caring for the infant and how she thought and dreamed of how much fun they would have together when the baby was older. If you have a child in your life who is about to become a big brother or sister, this story would be perfect for them.

Who would have thought that Madonna, the flamboyant rock star who sang "Like a Virgin" and the hit "Material Girl, " would pen storybooks for children. A highly unlikely author, she has written several stories including "The Adventures of Abdi" and "Mr. Peabody's Apples." Her works contain positive messages for children and portray subtle life lessons.

It is so amazing how these very talented individuals stretch themselves and their talents even further by writing these volumes for the younger crowd. They are well deserving of any recognition they can get for their many accomplishments, especially for the literary works that they have produced.
