When you spend your time writing and it is the reason you can go to the bank with something in your hand, you must be able to make yourself understandable. This is by knowing what you are writing about, however, it also means doing a couple of other activities to accomplish this. Those would be editing and proofreading your material for understand ability.

The first task is editing and it concerns the actual content of the piece. To edit means to check all of the facts you wish to present. It is the verification of those facts that hold your piece together and must be looked at by you or someone else before it is published. The math is checked and all conclusions must be examined to determine whether they hold up.

While editing is looking at the facts of the piece, what many call proofing is looking at the piece itself or the construction of it. A person, whether yourself or someone else, proofs the copy by checking the sentence structure and punctuation. Colons are often a confusing subject and proofing helps locate those problems and get them fixed.

Just editing your piece is not enough. Just getting all of the facts right is vital. Getting them put down on paper, in a form that honors all of the work you put into getting them right, is as crucial. Saying something about a strongly held belief, for example, is powerful but saying the same thing in a way that does not detract from your passion is powerful and persuasive.

One of the things or devices that get over used, in many cases, are commas. There are entire books and power point presentations written about their use and many writers still are not convinced about their proper use. Capitalization is another problem to many. Using the wrong word for the context or misspelling it can create problems for readers of material if it is not their first language and they are depending on accuracy to help them follow context. Proofing will help retain that easy to read flow.

Many writers understand their weakness in this area and they will often hire and pay someone else to do this critical work. This professional will have, at their command, the rules of grammar and common sense on their side and help you turn your first, relatively weak, draft into something that can draw attention to your work in a positive way.

As you may be involved in the writing industry or are simply trying to put together some copy for the promotion of a product or service, you need authoritative copy. You may need, if you are unsure of the appropriate grammar rules, an expert to take a look and help you out in this regard. Professional editors and proofing companies exist all over the Internet for your use.

The words and concepts you are able to write down are, indeed, your product. You know that, in order to impress your clients or your readers, they must be carefully considered and rendered in appropriate ways. This is why you are used and this is why you must use everything, and everyone, that can assist you to do this. If it does not make sense it should not be written or offered.
