The media, marketers and authors sometimes hype titles for selfish reasons. They are eager to drive sales other than offer the truth. The person best positioned to give a list of the best fantasy books is one who knows what the lovers of this genre want. It takes years of perusing through such books to identify a good read from crap. Here is the actual list of titles that will never disappoint you.

George R Martin is making waves in this pool with his series A Game of Thrones. It has been a hit across platforms for sometime now. The writer shows mastery of technique and prowess through a string of carefully woven stories that appear distinct yet merge at the right time. Martin shows no mercy to heroes in his work. This makes it impossible to determine who will emerge a hero or loser until you have cleared the last sentence.

Patrick Rothfuss has gifted the world novel entitled The Name of the Wind. The story features a legend who conceals the lives of a woman and a boy and presents an encounter that changes their worlds forever. The boy embarks on a journey to challenge his destiny. Every word and action outlined in this novel is perfect and precise. It is one breath taking roller coaster of a read.

For lovers of ironies, The Blade Itself is the perfect pick. It is a collection of breathtaking action, black humor and faint heroes. How would you fancy a warrior who fears going to war, a golden heart in the chest of a torturer and barbarian not known for killing? The writer has managed to create memorable characters who play a significant role in the most twisted plot.

The Axe and The Throne is the title that M. D. Ireman gives to his novel. The writer captures your imagination and transfers you into a world that is painful to leave. Through every scene is enshrouded in pain and darkness, it is laced with a jubilation moment. The cast is made of unbelievable characters whose actions are unthinkable.

J. R. R Tolkien is a common name in the world of fantasies and has renewed his participation through the title Lord of the Ring. This is considered an epic of the century. His mastery of English language and its mythology, experience of WW I and creativity are all exemplified in this title. Though a movie has been made under the same title, you will feel as though you were conned at the theaters if you pick the book.

Grossman Lev has perfectly captured Post-modern fantasy in The Magicians. It does not feature repetitive cliches, repetitive characters or obvious plots. According to Lev, heroes are not all about winning. They face post-traumatic stress and have to deal with depression at times like everyone else.

Other epic fantasy novels include Disc World written by Pratchett Terry, Lies of Locke Lamora which is the work of Lynch Scott and The Way of Kings which is the work of Sanderson Brandon. Some of the best books in this genre exist as single titles while others have been made into series. While some already exist in duality as movies, flipping through the pages adds something to the experience.
